The Hyundai Elite i20 Cross is all set to hit Indian roads on March 9 this year, says a report on Overdrive. The upcoming Hyundai car is getting ready for its global debut and the test mule of the crossover has been spotted around Hyundai’s manufacturing facility in Chennai. The Elite i20 is expected to be priced between Rs. 6.5 lakhs to Rs. 8 lakhs.
The Elite i20 Cross will compete with Toyota Etios Cross, Fiat Avventura and Volkswagen Cross Polo. Expected to be available with additional features, the Elite i20 Cross’s test mule that has been spotted near Hyundai’s manufacturing facility gives an impression that the crossover could sport LED daytime running lights, roof rails (adds on to the rugged styling), projector headlights, different alloy wheels, skid guards, body cladding and an increased ground clearance.
The Elite i20 Cross will sport a restyled front, grille and air dams and it is expected that the crossover could get a set of larger wheels. While the cars interiors could get some changes, the engine specifications will continue to be the same. The same 1.2-liter petrol engine and 1.4-liter diesel engine that does duty in the Elite i20 will be found under the hood of the Elite i20 Cross. The diesel variants will be equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox and the petrol variants will be available with a 5-speed gearbox.
Last year, Hyundai Elite i20 had bagged the “Indian Car of the Year” (ICOTY) award and the company has aggressive plans for the Indian market in 2015. Before launching the i20 Cross, Hyundai will launch the Hyundai Verna facelift on February 16. The Korean automaker has scheduled the launch of its iX25 compact SUV in the festive season i.e from September to November, this year.
