2015 Hyundai ix25 and i20 Cross spied testing
2015 has been keeping the car makers busy with the testing of their new products that has been scheduled for launch in the coming months. Besides Renault (that has been testing its Lodgy), Maruti Suzuki (testing its Maruti Suzuki S-Cross), Hyundai has also wrapped its compact SUV, Hyundai ix25 and i20 Cross.
Both ix25 and i20 Cross were spied during their testing phase by an NDTV Autos reader. Hyundai ix25 that has recently scored five star ratings in the C-NCAP test in China, is scheduled to be launched in the first half the year. It will compete with Renault Duster, Ford Ecosport and Nissan Terrano. Hyundai’s compact SUV concept version was first shown at the Beijing Auto Show in 2014 and the production version was unveiled at the Chengdu Auto Show.
The Hyundai ix25 will appear to be the smaller version of Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. The design of Hyundai ix25 is inspired from Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 that also rules the design of Santa Fe and Elite i20. The compact SUV’s length is slightly more than 4 metres putting it in the segment of Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster.
The high end variants are expected to sport large 5-spoke alloy rims, panoramic sunroof and LED DRLs with projector headlamps.
The Hyundai ix25 is expected to be powered by a 1.4 liter VTVT petrol producing 105.5 bhp and a 1.4 liter U2 diesel engine producing 88.7 bhp. The compact SUV will be available with a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox with front wheel drive option only.
Along with the Hyundai ix25, the Hyundai i20 Cross was also spotted during its testing phase.
Elite i20 Cross that is going to be a beefed up version of the Elite i20. The i20 Cross is expected to feature tough body cladding, slightly raised ride height, a pair of roof rails, rear disc brake, projector headlamps and new alloy rim designs.
The i20 Cross too is expected to get the same engine options that will be found under the hood of Hyundai ix25. The i20 Cross is also expected to be powered by 1.4-liter U2 diesel engine that produces 88.7 bhp and a 1.2-liter VTVT petrol engine that produces 82 bhp. It is likely to be available in a 5-speed manual gearbox.
In order to keep the prices competitive, Hyundai Motors will have 90% localization of the both the cars.
Hyundai ix25 that is expected to be priced between Rs. 8 lakhs to Rs. 10 lakhs will compete with Mahindra Scorpio, Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster and Ford Ecosport.
The Hyundai i20 Cross that is expected to be priced between Rs. 6.5 lakhs to Rs. 8 lakhs will compete with VW Cross Polo, Fiat Avventura and Toyota Etios Cross.
