The next generation Mahindra Bolero, codenamed Mahindra U301 was caught while it was being tested near Melmaravathur, which is quite close to the Research and Development (R&D) center of Mahindra. In the spy shots snapped by one of the members of Team-BHP forum, we can see the test mule with alloys and side step.
The Next generation Bolero is likely to be based on a shortened platform of the Scorpio, the sub-4 meter SUV is expected to get an automated manual transmission. The interiors are likely to get a combination of chrome and faux aluminium inserts. The instrument cluster has two large, chrome ringed dials like the one in XUV 500 and the 3-spoke steering wheel. The top end models are expected to get a steering mounted audio controls. Besides that, the interiors of next generation Bolero could also get two rectangular air vents that will be fitted on the top of the dashboard having a faux brushed aluminum finish.
The U301 that is expected to be launched towards the end of the year is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine or a 1.6-litre unit.
The next generation Bolero is expected to be priced between Rs. 6 lakhs to Rs. 8 lakhs (ex-showroom) and once launched, it will compete with Tata Sumo, Chevrolet Tavera and Tata Movus.
The current model of Mahindra Bolero that was first launched in 2001 is one of the bestselling vehicles in the utility vehicle segment. Currently, Mahindra is selling this SUV in both passenger and commercial segment. With and overall length of about 4170 meters and a wheelbase of 2794mm, Mahindra Bolero can seat seven passengers.
