Mahindra was recently caught testing the latest version of the Thar. The test mule of the latest Thar was caught testing in Nashik recently. Thar is expected to get some mechanical changes and besides that, the off-roader is likely to get some cosmetic changes.
Taking a look at the test mule, we can understand that the side panels, hood and wheel arches of the Thar might receive some revisions to make it look different from the existing model. The dashboard that seems to be camouflaged suggests that the interiors of the Thar might be revised.
The current model of Thar is powered by a 2,523cc four-cylinder DI engine (that produces 63bhp of power and 182.5Nm of torque) and a 2,498cc CRDe diesel engine (that produces 105bhp of power and 247Nm of torque). These engine options are expected to continue under the hood of the upcoming version of Thar with the availability of a lower capacity diesel engine which would also be found under the hood of the upcoming U301 compact SUV. The hard top and soft top variants will continue to be on offer.
Mahindra had last updated the Thar in September, 2013 by adding the front axles locking hubs and by improving the canopy. The cabin was rigged with AC switches and the door handles were of a better quality.
Last year, Mahindra had offered the limited edition of Thar. 30 units of Thar were launched in new java brown colour and it featured protectors on headlamps and tail lamps, new decals. The seats and floor mats got special edition branding.
The upcoming upgraded version of the Thar is expected to get an extensive makeover. However, the updated model is likely to continue with the rugged look.
Mahindra had launched the Scorpio in 2014 and this month, the company had also launched the S4+ variant of the Mahindra Scorpio. 2015 is going to be an eventful year for Mahindra as the company has scheduled the launch of the new Bolero, XUV 500 facelift and the S101 compact SUV besides the launch of the facelifted Thar.
