2015 Mahindra XUV 500 Hybrid spied testing; to get automatic transmission
Inspired by the aggressive looks of the ‘Cheetah’, Mahindra XUV 500 has been one of the most popular SUVs in the Indian automobile market. In order to make Mahindra XUV 500 affordable for most of the SUV lovers, Mahindra had launched its W4 and W6 edition besides the existing W8 edition. Needless, to say, they were successful in building up a strong customer base.
Mahindra does not seem to stop here with its plans for XUV 500. The company was recently caught testing the face lifted model of XUV 500 that will be available with automatic transmission and diesel hybrid variant. The XUV 500 Hybrid concept was showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo, 2014. The face lifted Hybrid variant is expected to be launched in mid-2015 and that is why, we see the SUV being tested. It is expected to be available at a price tag ranging between Rs. 15 lakhs to Rs. 16 lakhs.
Going by the spy images, captured by RushLane, the XUV 500 Hybrid is expected to feature revised tailgate and a revised front end with redesigned fog lamp and updated grille, newly designed alloy rims.
The interiors too, is expected to get many additional features along with an updated trim. The facelifted version is expected to include standard features like 2-DIN music system with reversing camera, climate control, leather seats along with the usual set of gadgets and buttons.
The face lifted version of XUV 500 will be powered by the same engine options. Under its hood, the same four cylinder, 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine will continue doing it’s duty and will produce 140 bhp of power at 3750 rpm and a peak torque of 330 Nm within 1600 and 2800 rpm. The XUV 500 facelift will continue to be available with the existing 2WD and 4WD options and will be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The powertrain of the face lifted version is expected to be fine-tuned to offer better fuel economy and enhanced performance. It will be introduced with an automatic gearbox that would be available only with the W8 variant i.e. the top end variant.
With the launch of Mahindra XUV 500 in 2011, Mahindra and Mahindra had offered a newly designed SUV to the Indian automobile market. Mahindra XUV 500 was tested on the roads of Australia, Europe and South Africa.
Currently, XUV 500 is available in four variants- W4, W6 2WD, W8 2WD, W8 4WD.
