It is being speculated that the new Maruti Celerio Diesel is ready to be launched in India in April 2015 and it is expected that the price of the car will start from Rs. 4.5 lakhs. If at all, Tata Motors scraps its plans to launch the Tata Nano diesel, then Celerio diesel will be the cheapest diesel car in India. The Celerio diesel might gain a lot of popularity if Maruti prices it competitively makes it a ‘value for money’ product just like the Celerio AMT. Currently, Tata Indica eV2 is the cheapest diesel car but that too will soon be replaced by the Tata Kite diesel hatchback, which Tata Motors plans to launch this year.
The Celerio Diesel will be powered by a twin cylinder, 792cc turbo diesel engine that is expected to produce 40 bhp and 120 Nm of torque. The diesel engine will deliver a fuel economy of 30 kms per litre. It is expected that the engine will be mated to the AMT.
Maruti Suzuki has big plans for 2015 as the carmaker has lined up for nine launches this year, of which three will be new cars and six of them will be upgraded. The three new cars to be launched by maruti this year include the S-Cross crossover, the light commercial vehicle- Super Carry and the yet to named YRA, that will be Maruti’s 2015 offering in the premium hatchback segment.
