BMW group owned Mini is all set to launch the Cooper S hatchback in India by the end of March this year and will be priced at Rs. 33 lakh. Available in a three door form, the Cooper S will be costlier by less than 10 percent of the Cooper D 3-Door, says an official from Mini.
Powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder motor that churns out 192PS and 300Nm, the Mini Cooper S will be the fastest hatchback one can find in India. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kms per hour within 6.7 seconds and can attain a top speed of 233 km per hour. The new India bound hatchback from Mini has a kerb weight of 1250kg. While the UK version will be available with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, the India bound model is expected to get an automatic transmission only.
As the CKD kits of Mini’s three door and five door hatchback are not currently not available, the company is in no plans to begin the CKD operations. It can be expected that the prices will not fall anytime soon.
The Cooper S is the core of the Mini brand and the number of Mini owners in India is rising. Despite having a small entity in India, Min has sold over 1000 cars from the time it was launched in 2012.
