The 2016 Audi R8 that was scheduled to make its international debut at the upcoming 2015 Geneva Motor Show, next month has not only revealed the car ahead of the date of its debut but has also announced details of the car.
The second generation R8 will be powered by a V10 naturally-aspirated engine and the 5.2-litre engine that is acquired from the previous generation model generates power of 540 hp and 610 hp. The engine comes mated to a 7-speed S-Tronic gearbox and the recently developed quattro system. As claimed by Audi, 100 percent of torque can be directed to the front or rear axle. The 610 hp R8 V10 Plus can accelerate from 0-100 km/h within 3.2 seconds and attain a top speed of 330 km/h.
Going ahead, Audi will launch the R8 e-tron that produces 455 hp and 920 Nm and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h within 3.9 seconds with more than 450 kms of range. The R8 V10 is now more efficient by 10 percent with carbon dioxide emissions recorded at 275 g/km.
The Audi R8 V10 is now 50 kgs lighter than its predecessor and has a dry weight of 1,454 kgs. Designers at Audi managed to cut down the car’s weight with the Audi Space Frame and with the usage of aluminum and carbon fiber reinforced plastics, however, the Audi R8 comes with more equipment. Besides that, the torsional rigidity of the car has also increased by 40 percent.
The new model of Audi R8 features LED headlights and the dynamic turn signals comes as standard to the supercar. The Virtual Cockpit that was first seen on the Audi TT last year, will also be seen in the new Audi R8.
The new Audi R8 will be put on sale in the European market in the summer of 2015 and will be priced at 165,000 Euros (Rs. 1.15 crores). The V10 Plus will be priced at 187,400 Euros (Rs. 1.31 crores).
