2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB launched in India today


The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been one of the most popular luxury saloon in the world from the Stuttgart based German automaker. The E-Class had always been known as the greatest luxury sedan until carmakers launched cars like the S – Class, BMW 7-series and the Audi A8. Mercedes-Benz India is all geared-up today to launch the new 5th generation of E-Class in the country. The company will launch the LWB (Long Wheelbase) version of the popular sedan in India, which is estimated to be priced at INR 70 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). With the LWB version, the new E-Class will certainly take the competition away from the Volvo S90, BMW 5 Series, Jaguar XF sedan and Audi A6. The new E-Class is concentrated more towards the chauffeur-driven customer segment. While the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class does make a case for itself in the Indian market, owing to its features on offer and long wheelbase body type, the car will be priced at an important premium (INR 60 lakh to 70 lakh) as compared to its rivals. In comparison, the competition has its cars priced around INR 50 lakh. Speaking about the sizes, the E-Class LWB gets an increase in wheel-base by 200 mm. inside the cabin, the rear passenger space is almost same to the new S-Class, while being significantly cheaper than the flagship Merc. The new E-Class acquires new Air suspension with lift function, electronically reclining rear seats and adjustable, panoramic sunroof, large touch-screen infotainment system, 3-zone automatic climate control, touch controls on the steering wheels and 14-speaker Burmester audio system.


The earlier generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class came with a total of 3 engine options. On the other hand, the new fifth generation E-Class gets two engine options – one diesel and one petrol. The petrol variant is powered by a 2.0-litre 4 -cylinder petrol engine that is capable of producing 182 BHP of top power while developing 300 Nm of highest torque. The oil burner is powered by a 3.0 – liter V6 diesel unit that is tuned to deliver 255 BHP of maximum power along with 620 Nm of top torque. Both the engines come mated to a 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission.
