Mahindra & Mahindra, India’s prominent utility car-maker seems to be working on the new 2018 Mahindra XUV-500 as the same has been spied testing on Indian roads for the very first time. The test mule of face lifted XUV500 was spotted alongside Mahindra TUV300 Plus and the SsangYong Tivoli based S201 compact SUV. The test mule being fully under camouflage, the spy shots does not disclose much of the details. However, the spy images do reveal something about the new Mahindra XUV500 which is new set of alloys that are similar to the ones seen on Aero Concept.
As a reminder, the Mahindra XUV Aero Concept was showcased at last year’s Auto Expo in Greater Noida. The images further expose that the tail light design and details on the test mule seems to be approved advanced from the current model. Alongside the cosmetic updates, the new 2018 Mahindra XUV500 could be powered by a new 2.2 L mHawk diesel unit which will be more powerful as per the market rumours. The all-new bigger engine will be tuned to make 30 hp more than the current 140 hp along with torque figures that could go up to 360 Nm.
There isn’t formal approval concerning the launch of XUV500 from the company, however, Rajan Wadhera, Executive VP, R&D and International Product Development – Mahindra (Automotive Sector) confirmed the arrival of updated 2018 Mahindra XUV500 in India by this year. So taking this into consideration, we believe that the company could the updated avatar of XUV500 by the month of December. The company will be looking to keep the prices pretty competitive for its flagship model irrespective of the power hike.
As a reminder, the company is also working on 2 new cars –S201 and TUV300 Plus wherein the former will be the replacement for the Xylo while the latter will be Tivoli derived compact SUV. We previously also reported that the car maker is gearing up to launch new Scorpio with 140bhp/ 330Nm which has been spied testing on the Indian roads lately.
