After many months of testing, Tata has finally launched the all new Tiago AMT in Indian market. Available only in a top-spec XZA trim, prices for the Tiago AMT start at Rs.5.39 lakh (Delhi ex-showroom). The Tiago AMT comes with the same 1.2 liter petrol motor good for 114 Nm of torque and 85 BHP. There isn’t diesel-powered model on offer. The Tiago’s AMT gearbox is a 5 -speed unit which also offers Sport mode and creep function. It also offers a City mode which is alike to its manual gearbox equipped counterpart. Like most other AMT gear-box cars sold in India, drivers will also be capable to change gears manually if needed. While available only in the top trim for now, Tata will offer the AMT gearbox in lower variants in the future.
The car will be on sale across the nation in over 597 Tata Motors sales outlets. We are very confident that it will further increase the market for us.”The Maruti Celerio AMT is the only straight competing to the Tiago AMT in the segment and is available in a choice of trim levels, with the top trim also inexpensive than the Tiago’s by around Rs.14, 000. The car-maker is also preparing to launch its all-new Tiago based compact-sedan, the Tigor soon. The car will share its mechanicals with the Tiago and, thus, could also receive the AMT gearbox option.
The TIAGO Easy Shift AMT comes equipped with four gear positions – Automatic, Reverse, Neutral and Manual. In addition, it boasts of 2 drive modes City and Sports, for a peppy driving skill and city cruising. The Manual mode helps shift gears at a flick of a gear stick for an engaging experience. For ease of maneuverability during parking and heavy traffic situations, TIAGO Easy Shift AMT comes with an inbuilt ‘creep’ feature, which enables the car to crawl as soon as the pressure is eased off the brake pedal, without pressing the accelerator. This function also stops the car from rolling back when it starts from an inclined position.
