The news of BMW Motorrad arriving the Indian market has been going around for little years now. It had revealed the G 310 R at the 2016 Auto Expo and said that it plans to enter India officially. But no further growths were made until now. According to our sources, BMW Motorrad will make its debut in 2017, April. 5 locations have been shortlisted and work on the dealerships is on in full swing. BMW Motorrad will set shop in Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad.
The German brand will setup separate dealerships for its motorcycle division and they would not be sold at its car dealerships. The big news is that the BMW G 310 R will not go on sale which will come as a disappointment to many Indian bikers. According to our source, the delay is due to the fact that BMW is not happy with the excellence of the bike and they are working on reducing the price further to make it competitive in our cost-sensitive market. The G-310 R is the most affordable bike in BMW’s collection. It is also the first and only bike in BMW’s lineup to be built in India by TVS Motors at its Hosur facility.
Besides the G-310 R, we can also assume a barrage of high displacement motorcycles from BMW entering the Indian 2 wheeler space. BMW is likely to ride in the F-800GS, 1200GS, S1000RR, R nineT, S1000R, and K 1600 GTL. All the above bikes will come via CBU route and according to our source, the pricing of the BMW Motorrad will take many bikers by surprise. Also, there are no plans to assemble the bikes in India until 2020 post which, based on the response and demand received, they might plan to setup a CKD assembly. Watch this space for more updates.
