Hyundai Motors has recently confirmed that it will be launching its MPV in India in 2016. Though the company has not divulged any information about the product but one thing is for sure that the MPV that will be offered by Hyundai will neither be low spec or low cost MPV like the Honda Mobilio or the Maruti Ertiga. Hyundai would rather prefer rivalling with Toyota Innova by launching its MPV.
In an exclusive interview with Business Standard, Rakesh Srivastava, Vice-President and Head- Marketing and Sales said, “We will launch a compact SUV next year. We will also bring an MPV, but that will not be before 2016.”
Based on the Hexa Space Concept, Hyundai’s MPV was showcased at the Auto Expo, 2012. The MPV has been codenamed, HND-7 and is in the advanced stage of development. However, the MPV has not been spied yet. Going by the codename, HND-7, the Hyundai MPV is expected to be a seven seater car offering more space and comfort.
The Hyundai MPV will feature the Fluidic Sculpture Design and is expected to look sporty with swept back lamps. The MPV could use the 1.6 litre diesel engine from the Elantra under the hood as it would be the apt engine to power the MPV.
The MPV segment has been quite a success in India with Toyota Innova, Maruti Ertiga and Honda Mobilio already doing well. Hyundai’s MPV has to compete with Datsun Go+, Maruti Ertiga, Honda Mobilio and Toyota Innova. The number of market players willing to enter this segment is growing with time.
Hyundai Motors is also planning to launch its crossover based on Elite i20 concept, sometime next year. The iX25 compact SUV from Hyundai is also scheduled for launch in 2015. The iX25 will be launched in India with aggressive pricing and it will compete with Renault Duster and Ford Ecosport.
Hyundai is becoming the preferred car brand in India. Recently, Hyundai Elite i20 was awarded the ‘India Car of the Year, 2015’. The car company has been doing very well in the domestic market and it plans to sell about 4.1 lakh by December, 2014. These numbers are the highest achieved by any company within a year.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motors and is now the second largest car manufacturer in India. This year has been very good for Hyundai and the company is busy with back to back launches to appeal to more number of Indian consumers.
