The popular middle weight nude motorbike from Kawasaki, the Z800, will be replaced by a technically advanced and bigger displacement motorbike – the Z900. The motorcycle is priced at Rs.9 lakh with accessories (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Z900 gets a sharper design which bears important similarity to its bigger sibling, the Z1000. Internationally, the motorcycle is built around a high tensile Trellis frame, powered by a 948cc in-line 4 cylinder engine which produces 125-PS @ 9500-rpm and a highest torque of 100Nm @ 7700rpm, mated to a six speed transmission. The motorbike gets slipper clutch and a segment first all-LED headlights. It gets 41mm inverted forks at the front and a horizontal back-link monoshock unit at the rear. Braking duties are handled by dual 300mm petal-type rotors with 4 piston calipers at the front and a single 250mm petal-type rotor with single-piston caliper at the rear. Additionally, ABS is accessible as standard. The bike runs on a Dunlop Sportmax 120/70 Z R17 tyre at front and a 180/55 Z R17 tyre at the back. The Z900’s saddle height is 795mm and it gets a 17-litre fuel tank. At 212kg, the Z900 weighs 20kg lesser than the outgoing Z800.
Kawasaki – Z650
The Z650 gets harsher styling and a new frame that helps decrease weight targeted towards making the bike dynamically strong. The motorcycle is powered by a 649cc, liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder engine delivering 67.5-PS at 8,000-rpm and highest torque of 65.7Nm at 6,500rpm which is mated to a 6-speed transmission. The Z650 weighs 19 kilos lighter than the outgoing ER-6n motorbike though the 650-cc parallel duel motor sees a 4PS drop in power owing to Euro 4 norms. The motorcycle makes 68PS and gets better mid-range. Ergonomics have been enhanced. It gets a low set 790mm seat good for average height riders. It now gets ABS and a new slipper clutch as standard. The Z650 is priced at Rs.5.19 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
2017 Kawasaki Ninja 650
The new Ninja 650 gets a gallant design with a sharper fairing. The design seems to have taken inspiration from its bigger sibling – the Ninja ZX-10R. It now gets a new and smaller tail section. Powering the 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 650 is a 649cc, liquid-cooled, duel cylinder engine delivering 67.5PS at 8,000rpm and peak torque of 65.7Nm at 6,500rpm. The mill is mated to a six speed transmission. Other design changes include lower 790 mm split seats, a new, more rigid trellis frame and three new colours – Metallic Spark Black, Candy Burnt Orange and Blizzard Pearl White. The Ninja’s 650cc parallel twin motor is the similar one used in the Z650. The weight of the motorcycle is dropped by 15 kg which enhances dynamic agility to the motorcycle. The 2017 Ninja 650 is priced at Rs.5.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
