Previous this week, Mahindra had noiselessly dropped production of the automatic variants of the Scorpio, and dropped them from their website. Reports have now confirmed that the Mahindra Scorpio facelift will come equipped with the auto gearbox from the XUV 500. A masked test mule of the Scorpio facelift was recently spotted testing in Karnataka. The facelift would sport a few changes in design at the front as well as the rear of the SUV, the overall profile and dimensions will remain the same. The main alteration though would be under the hood. The 2.2-litre mHawk Motor in the Scorpio will be tuned to produce more 138bhp, 20bhp more than the current model and the car is expected to produce more torque as well.

The Scorpio facelift will feature the 6 speed auto gearbox manufactured by Aisin, presently being used in the XUV 500. This gearbox on the XUV 500 is designed to fit on the transversely mounted engine and drive the FWD/AWD drive layout. Mahindra would have to re-design some parts of the gear-box to fit the Scorpio’s longitudinally mounted engine and drive the Scorpio’s RWD/4WD drive layout. The current 5-speed manual gearbox is expected to be carried on to the facelift too.
