Maruti Suzuki India launched the much awaited hot hatch-back Baleno RS in India today. Premium and powerful hatchback segment and also increases the competition under INR 10 lakh price bracket. It’s priced at Rs 8.69 Lakh to (ex-showroom Delhi).
Baleno RS: Engine Specifications
The biggest change is the new 1.0 litter turbocharged engine. Called the ‘Booster-jet’, this three-cylinder engine develops 102 BHP of power and 150Nm of torque. The engine will be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission only, there will be no automatic on offer. Notably, these figures are a notch lower than the Euro-spec Baleno Booster-jet that pumps out 110PS and 169Nm. The numbers are almost on par with its arch rival – the Volkswagen GT TSi that features a 1.2 litre turbo-# petrol that makes 110PS and 175Nm. However, what is likely to tilt the game in the Baleno’s favour is its low 950kg kerb weight The Baleno RS is powered by a 1.0 litre, 3-cylinders, turbocharged Booster-jet engine which displaces 998-cc and makes 100 BHP of power 150 Nm of torque. The Transmission tasks are to be handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Baleno RS: Interiors
Step inside the Baleno RS and everything will look familiar. There isn’t any difference compared to the standard car as far as equipment and layout are concerned. The RS gets goodies such automatic climate control, a 7-inch ‘Smart-Play’ touch-screen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple Car-Play and Navigation, steering-mounted audio controls and a detailed driver information display (MID). It also features the usual convenience features which include all four power windows, reach and rake adjust for the steering, and a height-adjustable driver seat. Speaking of practicality, the Baleno RS features the same voluminous 339-litre boot and gets a 60:40 split for the rear bench too.

Baleno RS: Exteriors
The exterior profile is almost alike to the standard Baleno but some sporty touches to the car lend it an aggressive and upmarket look. For example the rear and front bumper sport aggressive and modern touches, while the side skirts with 16-inch alloy-wheels lend it a low slung character. The RS badge on the boot lid helps separate this from the regular Baleno models.
