The 7-seater Maruti Wagon R that was scheduled to be launched in mid-2017 will go through its stages of production in Maruti’s manufacturing facility in Gujarat from January 2017.
According to an Economic Times report, Suzuki has invited quotations from vendors for car projects that has been planned to be built out of Maruti’s Gujarat plant.
The 7-seater Maruti Wagon R (codenamed YCA) is likely to start its prototype production in January, 2017 and the real production is expected to commence from May, 2017.
The next generation Maruti WagonR is expected to be priced between Rs. 4 lakhs to Rs. 6 lakhs and it will compete with Datsun Go+ and Mahindra Quanto in India.
With the launch of the 7-seater Wagon R, Maruti Suzuki wants to get into the Mini MPV segment.
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R that was first launched in 2000 in India has gone through numerous makeovers without changing the ‘tall boy’ image of the car.
The 7-seater Wagon R’s length is expected to be below 4 metres, so that the company can avail excise duty benefits. The ‘Karimun WagonR 3 Rows Concept’ (a concept quite similar to the YCA) was first showcased at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) in 2013.
