Mercedes CLA sedan to be assembled in India; Indian launch in January 2015
Mercedes-Benz India has announced plans to launch its new car, The new Mercedes Benz CLA sedan in January, 2014.Unlike Mercedes’ other compact offerings in India like the A class, B class and GLA class which are imported via CBU – complete built up route, the new CLA class sedan will be assembled in Pune at the automakers Chakan plant. The CLA will be available with petrol and diesel engine options for the Indian market.
The petrol engined variant will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged unit which will enable it to reach 181 bhp at 5,500 rpm and generate a torque of 300 rpm between 1,200-1,400 rpm. The new CLA is driven by a 7 speed clutch transmission system which will enable it to achieve a speed of 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds. The Mercedes Benz CLA can reach a top speed of 235km/h and Mercedes claims a fuel efficiency of 15.02 km/l for the sedan.
The diesel counterpart of sedan, CLA 200 CDI, will be powered by a 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine which is capable of churning out 134 bhp between 3,600-4,400 rpm and not just this, the car is designed in such a way that it’ll develop 300 Nm of torque between 1,600-3,000 rpm. The diesel CLA does the 0 to 100 km/h in 9.8 seconds and can touch a top speed of 220 km/h . The CLA 200 CDI claims a fuel efficiency average of 17.9 km/l.
Moving on to the interiors, the Mercedes CLA sedan will come with Harman sound system with an array of 12 speakers in. The new sedan from Mercedes will be equipped with features like six air bags, CLAs, ASR and ABDs. Key exterior features include Bi-Xenon headlights and a panoramic roof.
Mercedes India had registered record sales in the year 2014 and it’ll be interesting to see the performance of the new CLA sedan in India. With an expected price tag of Rs. 30 lakh, the CLA will be taking on Audi’s A3 sedan. The advance bookings of the sedan have already started with a launch impending in January.
