UPDATE : As per latest reports, the New Mercedes Benz CLA sedan will be launched on January 20, 2015.
Mercedes-Benz India will be launching the Mercedes Benz CLA Class in January 2015. The entry-level luxury sedan is expected to come with a price tag of up to Rs. 30 lakhs. The Mercedes-Benz CLA Class that was debuted in India at the Indian Auto Expo, 2014, will compete with Audi A3 sedan.
The Mercedes-Benz CLA Class is based on the company’s new MFA (Modular Front-Wheel Architecture) platform. The A-Class, B-Class, GLA-Class, GLA 45 AMG and CLA 45 AMG are also based on the same platform. The entry level saloon looks sporty, premium yet refreshing.
The CLA Class that claims to have the lowest carbon dioxide emission in the entry-level luxury sedan segment is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. Both the engine variants will be mated to a 7G-DCT automatic gearbox.
The CLA Class sports a radar based assistance system that gives acoustic and visual warnings about any obstacle to the driver. The driver can press the brake pedal and initiate ‘Brake Assist’ for adaptive braking. In case, the system recognizes any chances of collision, the ‘Collision Prevention Assist’ calculates the ideal braking force required to avert an accident.
The CLA Class is equipped with smartphone integration facility.
The CLA Class seems has derived most of its design from the A-Class like the sculpted air intakes, chin spoiler and the floating dots grille. The side and back profile and the rear bumper gets clean sculpted lines. The boot lid of the car also gets sharp looks. The instrument panel includes five air vents. The outer rings of the vents have been given a high quality galvanized finish and the galvanized insert controls the direction of airflow.
The CLA Class also gets the electromagnetic power steering as standard. This power steering contributes to overall efficiency by offering improved driver feedback. The ESP control unit of the car activates various steering assistance functions.
Mercedes-Benz entered the Indian market in 1994. While the company imports all its other models to India, the Mercedes-Benz C Class and E Class are assembled in India. The CLA 45 AMG, which is the performance oriented sedan of the company is already on sale in India.
