Volkswagen has opened bookings for the all-new Beetle in India,through a dedicated website which also reveals the specification and features that we can expect. The iconic car is due to be launched in the coming weeks. The booking amount for prospective customers is Rs. 1 Lakh. The latest generation of the Volkswagen Beetle was revealed at the 2012 Shanghai Auto Show and also showcased at the 2012 New York Auto Show and it will be launched in India in the coming weeks. The current Beetle retains the same design language as its predecessors but it now gets a more muscular styling.
The new Beetle is now larger and lower than the older model. The squared bumpers, integrated spoiler, rakish roofline and larger wheels give the car a more muscular stance than its ancestor, thus reaching out to a wider audience. Test-mules of the Beetle have been spotted earlier on Indian roads. The new Beetle measures 1808 mm in width, 4277 mm in length and 1486 mm in height. It’s wheelbase is 2540 mm. The Beetle coming to India will come with 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine that produces 147 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. It will be mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The car rides on 16 inch alloy wheels.
The new 2016 VW Beetle will be available in four colours: Habanero Orange, Tornado Red , Oryx White and Blue Silk. The car that India will get will come equipped with LED daytime running lights, power retractable ORVMs with bi-xenon headlamps,integrated turn indicators, dual exhausts, front fog lamps and rear spoiler. On the inside, the iconic car will get dual zone automatic climate control, auto dimming rear view mirror, panoramic glass roof, touchscreen display. It also comes with features like sunroof, leather interiors, bi-xenon headlamps, and chrome packages for interior and exterior. The safety features include front two airbags with passenger airbag deactivation, front and rear parking sensors, side and curtain airbags for the front passengers, hill hold control, Anti Slip Regulation (ASR), Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Engine Drag Torque Control (EDTC).
The new Volkswagen Beetle competes with the Abarth 595 Competizione and the Mini Cooper. It will be imported into the country as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) unit and will cost around 35 lakh (ex- showroom, Delhi).
