The Volkswagen Passat (B8) is likely to be launched in India in February 2016, as per a report on Autocar India. There are the lot of reasons for delaying the launch of the car but the company is determined to launch the premier sedan. If VW Passat is launched in India, it will compete with Skoda Superb, Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry. It is likely to be priced between Rs. 20 lakhs to Rs. 25 lakhs.
The India bound model gets a 2.0-liter TDI engine that needs to go through the Indian homologation norms and BS-4 emission norms. The company is expected to adapt the BS-4 norms in India to save the costs in expensive hardware and for ensuring better fuel quality. The engine in Europe bound models comply with strict norms.
To work on a better pricing, Volkswagen India could increase the localization levels of the car but due to a plant upgrade, the car’s launch is expected to get delayed. The 2016 VW Passat is based on the new MQB architecture and is 85 kgs lighter than its predecessor. The company had showcased the VW Passat GTE at the Paris Motor Show in October, 2014.
The India bound Passat is expected to be powered by a 2.0-liter TDI engine that will come mated to a DSG transmission.
