Right after partnering with Kinetic group’s Motoroyale to step into Indian market, British bike creator Norton has exposed its forthcoming new 650-cc engine powered Scrambler models. These motorcycles will be a part of the brand’s entry-level 650cc engine powered models that will target the Royal Enfield’s 650cc models. It is clear that Norton is aiming to grab a sizeable chunk in the middleweight category segment of Indian market by pumping in new models. Speaking about the Norton 650 cc scrambler motorcycles, there will be two models. One is going to be a road biased scrambler and another will be a dual-purpose model capable of doing serious off-roading. Both the motorcycles will come carrying Norton’s signature retro styling and blend it with aggressive tone.
As the British marquee has shown the upcoming scramblers, these bikes get large round shaped headlamp with the dual-purpose model featuring a compact and practical windshield. The latter scrambler will come with knuckle guards, raised front mudguard and it will have provision for fitting additional luggage bags at the back.
Both the motorcycles will get a single-pod instrument cluster with analog and digital display, muscular large fuel tanks and well cushioned flat leather wrapped seats. The motorcycles will get a metal plate at bottom protecting engine blocks. The Norton Scramblers will run on 17-inch multi-spoke rear wheels wrapped with meaty tyres, while the road-focused model will get an 18-inch front wheel and the dual-purpose motorcycle will receive a 19-inch front wheel. Norton adds that the scramblers will have a steel trellis frame with some bolt-on sections to give the bike more rigidity. The motorcycle will be a proper scrambler with performance that’ll be a step above the competition. The aim, says Norton is to make an honest machine, a bike that one can ride in the mud and in case you drop it, be able to pick it up and continue with the ride.
For braking duty, both the Norton scramblers will get disc brakes at both front and rear wheels. For suspension duty, there will be USD front forks. Power and torque output of these models are yet to be disclosed. But, Norton claims the 650 cc parallel-twin engine can be tuned to churn out power output between 70 PS and 175 PS. We expect to learn more about these machines in coming days. The company says that the scramblers will be an everyday Norton. It’ll have ABS and traction control and other modern bits, wrapped in a design that’s characteristic of retro Nortons.
