During the Republic Day celebrations on January 26 this year, Indians will see US President Barack Obama travelling in his armoured Cadillac limousine called ‘the Beast’. The Beast has got all the safety features required to ensure maximum protection to the 44th President of the United States of America.
Each and every component in the Beast has been carved to resist serious firepower. The armoured Cadillac has a length of 18 feet and a height of 5 feet 10 inches. The limousine’s body has military grade armour and the reinforced steel that runs under the car protects the car’s occupants from grenades and bombs.
The Chauffeur’s chamber comprises of all standard equipment along with a communication system and GPS tracking system. The windows can resist armour piercing bullets and can be lowered by only 3-inches. Other safety features include Pump-action Shotguns, Night Vision Camera and Tear Gas. The car also gets bottles that stores the blood types of the first family. The Chauffeur too has been specially trained by the Secret Services to avoid dangerous situations.
A foldaway laptop with Wi-Fi and satellite phone has been provided at the President’s chamber, so that the President can directly connect to the President and the Pentagon. The space is ideal for four people with the partition glass that can only be lowered by the President. The door’s armour plating is 8-inches thick and weighs close to the cabin door on a Boeing 757 Jet.
The car’s boot also has firefighting equipment and an oxygen supply tank and the fuel tank gets a specially designed foam which prevents the tank from exploding under any circumstances. The Goodyear tyres are puncture proof, Kevlar-reinforced and shred. The car with all safety equipments weighs at 8 tonnes and needs more power to move. It is powered by a 6.5-litre diesel engine that can attain a top speed of 60 miles per hour.
