Renault has started dealer training for the future Kwid Climber edition from this week. This suggests that the car’s India launch is not far away. Renault had showed the Kwid Climber concept at the Auto Expo last year. It was basically a cosmetically improved version of the regular Kwid hatch-back that is presently on sale in the country. Cosmetic changes seen on the Climber concept included a new stylish front-bumper with beefier front grille, faux skid plate, black cladding around the head-lamps and tail lights, new ORVMs, thicker body cladding on the wheel arches and door panels, 15-inch alloys shod with 205/65 competition rally tires and a tweaked back bumper. The interiors received a dual tone treatment along with contrasting red inserts on the steering, AC vents, gear lever and floor mats. There was also a prominent Climber badge on the door pad.
Excitingly, the French car maker plans to do more by not just selling all the variants, but it wishes to sell all kinds of accessories and other kits to make every Kwid look exceptional. We saw at the launch on what kind of option showrooms has for Kwid to make it stand apart. To take things even further, Renault has showed two more concepts – Kwid Racer and Kwid Climber. Both are bound for production and will set to elevate Kwid’s appeal another step higher. Renault is expected to launch the Kwid Climber edition with the 1.0-litre, three cylinder engine which will come with a 5speed manual gear transmission as standard. It remains to be seen whether or not the AMT gearbox is accessible as an option on the forthcoming model. The names sound like sub-variants certainly. Kwid Climber is cross-variant and has more SUV parts on it and could be pitched as a city adventurous car for our market. Kwid Climber gets rooftop rails, more pronounced cladding, diffuser, skid plates etc. to make it real when it comes to joining that name to the car.
