The MPV segment is the one which the car makers just cannot ignore prioritizing, especially when they are operating in India. Renault’s plan to launch the Lodgy MPV in India by March, 2015 is known to everybody now. Recently, the 2015 Renault Lodgy was caught testing in India by an Indian Autos Blog’s reader on GST Road, Chennai.
This gives us an impression that that the Lodgy would be on sale on its scheduled date. Lodgy is expected to be priced between Rs. 7 lakhs to Rs. 10 lakhs.
The India specific Renault Lodgy will be slightly modified giving it a slightly different look from the international model. The India specific model is likely to feature a restyled front fascia with black plastic cladding in the underlip of base variants, the front grille bar feature chrome detailing, new alloy rim design, new communication colour and a silver skid guard for top variants, which is optional.
It is also expected that along with the exteriors, Renault could also tweak the interiors to suit the Indian market. The Lodgy seems to be sharing a bulk of its components with the Duster that is localized in India.
The Renault Lodgy is expected to be powered by a 1.5-liter dCi engine, as it is the only diesel engine available with Renault India’s range. Renault’s MPV will be available with a 5- or 6-speed manual gearbox. The seven seater MPV from Renault offers a lot of space inside, making the car ideal for India.
Renault Lodgy will compete with Honda Mobilio, Maruti Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy, and Mahindra Xylo once it is launched in India. If the Lodgy is priced competitively, it would be preferred by many Indian customers. Renault India has already started producing the upcoming Renault Lodgy in its Orgadam manufacturing facility near Chennai.
With so many options available in the MPV segment, we will have to wait and watch Renault Lodgy’s performance in India. Will it be able to write a new story for Renault India, just the way its SUV sibling, Duster did?
