The Tata Aria 4X4 Automatic was recently caught during its testing phase on the Pune Satara highway recently by an Indian Auto Blog reader. Tata Motors had showcased its production ready concept at the Indonesia International Motor Show in 2014 and the Geneva Motor Show in 2013.
It is expected that the Tata Aria Automatic could be a premium offering, which means that it will compete with the automatic variant of Mahindra XUV500 that will be launched shortly. The Aria AT is expected to be powered by a 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine (the same engine option is also available in manual variant). The engine used in the automatic variant produces 156 PS and 400 Nm, while the manual variant produces 150 PS and 320 Nm.
The Aria Automatic is likely to feature a six-speed automatic transmission. The crossover SUV is expected to be launched by the end of this year at an expected price of Rs. 16.5 lakhs (ex-showroom price).
The current model of Tata Aria, based upon the Tata Xover concept was launched in October 2010. Tata Motors had collaborated with its subsidiary, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) to design the Tata Aria that is considered to be a blend of MPV, SUV and sedan. The crossover SUV was designed for both Indian as well as international markets.
