The Tata Tigor (codenamed Kite 5) will launch in the Indian market on coming March 29 2017. This was said by Guenter Butschek, MD, Tata Motors, at the unveiling of the Race-Mo sports car during day 1 of the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. It is the new compact sedan based on the Tiago hatchback and was unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Tigor will substitute Tata’s entry level sedan Indigo CS, and would compare with Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Ford Figo Aspire and other lower variants of the segment. Tata is apparently planning on roping in Linel Messi for pitching the Togor in the market. It is probable to launch at an aggressive price tag of Rs.4.0 to 5.5 lakh. Tata is also launching the Kite hatchback sometime before the Tigor.
The Tata Tigor has been termed by the automaker as a compact style-back and will be the first of its kind in this part of the market. It carries the same design philosophy as the Tiago but with the rear end now getting a boot. It is an alike story on the inside as the Tigor will share its feature and design list with the Tiago. Given its sedan leanings, Tata may offer the cabin with an optional beige trim. It will be presented with the 1.1-litre Revotorque diesel engine and the 1.2-litre Revotron engine. The former can be had with a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic while the latter is offered only with a five-speed MT. The Tigor will take on the likes Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Nissan Micra Active, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and the entire Datsun family of cars but will have the advantage of offering the sedan body style. This should be its advantage when it comes to USPs.
