The Scion FR-S has been a popular name in European markets from 12-16. However, with the demise of Toyota’s hipster brand, the vehicle has now been renamed as Toyota 86 for the 17 model. The international market viewed the popular 2 + 2 sports car only in one trim level, while this time around, the latest offering has been rechristened as the 2017 Toyota 860- Special limited edition. The 860 nomenclature denotes 860 units finished in Halo White and another 860 in Supernova Orange, which has been exclusively offered for the special edition.
Based on the GT86, visually the 860 special edition gets dark racing strips, black side mirrors, a blackened rear spoiler and a black chrome finish for the 17 inch wheels. As for the interior, the vehicle gets shadowy leather with orange contrast stitching on the seats, steering wheel, dash door panels, shift boot and handbrake. Speaking of features, the 860 Special Edition furthermore offers push button start, dual-zone automatic weather control and heated seats. Additionally, it also comes with a larger 4.2-inch TFT display with a g-meter and lap-timer functions in addition to trip information.
The GT-86 from Toyota has not been the best performer in its segment, however it still has a loyal fan base over the years. The 860 Special Edition continues to be powered by Toyota-Subaru D-4S boxer 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine that generates 203-bhp in six speed manual, while the six speed automatic generates 198-bhp of power. Expected to launch later this month, the vehicle will likely be priced from $29,155 to $29875 (Approx. Rs.19.39 lakh – Rs.19.86 lakh).
Earlier known as the Scion FR-S, the Toyota 86 is the niche product that has been opposite sales decline recently in the US. Back in 2013, the Japanese manufacturer was able to sell 18,000 units which had shrunken to just 7,500 in 2016. In order to address the sales drop, like any other automobile brand would do, Toyota will be entering the 860 Special Edition later this month. The budget sports car will be limited to 860 units in Halo White and as many in Supernova Orange courtesy of the limited edition.
