Toyota enthusiasts who find Toyota Corolla too expensive and have a corpus to spend little more thant what the Toyota Etios would cost, have some good news now. To fill the gap between the premium Corolla and the economical Etios, the automaker is working towards launching the Toyota Vios sedan.
Toyota was recently caught testing the Toyota Vios near Toyota’s manufacturing facility in Bangalore. The Vios will be a sub-compact sedan like the Honda City, VW Vento and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. The Vios was created to target the Asia Pacific markets. It is yet to be confirmed if the car was tested for India launch or it was just brought to the country for research purposes.
Vios will be powered by the same engine that does duty under the hood of the Etios. A 1.5 liter turbo diesel engine will churn out 68PS and 170Nm and a 1.5-liter petrol engine will churn out 90 PS and 132 Nm. It is also expected that the Vios will share the 1.4-liter diesel engine with the Toyota Corolla and the transmission duties will be taken care by a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual gearbox.
If the Vios is launched in India, it is likely to be priced between Rs. 9 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh. The Vios would give serious competition to its competitors in the sub compact sedan segment as Toyota has built its reputation for reliability and low maintenance costs.
