2017-1

The year 2017 began with the launch of 2 significant cars, the Tata Hexa and Maruti Ignis, but these launches are just the angle of the iceberg. Automakers, both global and domestic, are lining up a slew of new and updated cars for the Indian markets ranging from SUVs and mass market sedans to higher end luxury cars and SUV. Launches in the volume segment this year contain the likes of the all-new Maruti Swift and Dzire, the heavily revised Tata’s third compact sedan, the Tigor and Ford EcoSport. On the opposite end of the measure, Volkswagen is lastly set to relaunch Passat, Mercedes is set to launch the new E-class in long-wheelbase form and Lexus has announced a grand pass into the Indian market with three top class models.
Here is a look at the new hatchbacks and SUVs heading to our coasts this year

Honda WR-V

Honda’s entry into the crossover-hatchback segment, the WR-V, will go on sale in this March 2017. Based on the Jazz, the WR-V gets a totally revised front fascia and a tweaked tail. However, from the sides, the resemblance to the Jazz is quite visible. Inside, the car shares its interiors with the Jazz though Honda is set to offer added equipment over its premium hatchback. As per spy pictures of the car, the model is set to get large alloy-wheels, a touch-screen infotainment system – likely the new unit from the City facelift – along with kit such as automatic climate control and a front center armrest.

Maruti Baleno RS (March 2017)

Maruti is set to lastly launch the Baleno RS this year following the model’s debut as a near-production concept early last year at the Auto Expo. Unlike previous reports, the RS’ 1.0-litre Booster Jet engine is predictable to be detuned for the Indian car with the unit developing 102 HP in place of 111-HP as previously reported. A five-speed manual gear transmission will be offered as standard with no news yet of an automatic variant. In terms of styling, the car is probable to receive a minor body kit to set it apart from the regular Baleno
