Volvo had already confirmed in August, this year that the new Volvo XC90 will introduced in India in mid-2015 at a price range of around Rs. 65-70 lakh. Although, the company will start delivering the vehicle after August 2015, Volvo India will make the first 200 units available in top-spec variants and the other variants would be available later at a lower price. The company plans to sell around 500 units of its latest model in the first year of its launch. Few details about the Volvo XC90 has been described below:
Volvo XC90, which will soon be available in India sports a 2.0-litre, four cylinder diesel engine that produces 245 bhp and 470 NM torque. The engine belongs to the latest Drive E engine category that ensures low carbon emissions and more fuel efficiency. The engine produces relatively better power and torque than the previous model. The new XC90 has an eight-speed gearbox and this model that will be sold in India soon will be available with an all-wheel drive system. The possibility of coming up with a petrol variant of the XC90 seems to be very low. The other engines available are the T6 with turbo and supercharger which churns out 320 horsepower and 400 Nm torque, the D4 diesel engine that produces 190 hp and 400 Nm torque and the T5 petrol four-cylinder with 254 hp and 350 Nm torque.
Design and Interiors:
One would certainly get impressed by the looks of the Volvo XC90. Apart from the beautifully designed and well finished cabin, the premium car maker has worked towards finer details of the glass gear lever and the diamond cut finish for some controls. The second row seats are quite spacious and comfortable. However, the third row of seats does not seem to offer that space and comfort.
Volvo’s innovation process: the road ahead
The XC90 from Volvo is based on the Scalable Product Architecture Platform (SPA). The latest platform from Volvo that will support many more upcoming models from Volvo has been going through a lot of stages of development since four years. For developing different types of vehicles like SUVs, sedans and crossovers, the car manufacturer just have to change the dimensions of the SPA. This will contribute a lot towards company’s future plans and help them save on developing costs.
