Yamaha Fazer 250 Caught Testing Again

Ever since the Yamaha FZ25 made its debut in the Indian two-wheeler market earlier this year it was inevitable that a sports tourer version of the bike will be launched in India. The only question was when the bike would come and we expected Yamaha India to launch the Fazer 250 by late 2017 or at the 2018 Auto Expo. It seems that the Japanese two-wheeler giant plans to launch the Fazer 250 in the Indian market soon. We had seen a camouflaged motorcycle undergoing testing and now more clear pictures of the Yamaha Fazer 250 has been posted on line.  From the new set of images it is clear that the Yamaha 250cc bike is production ready and we can expect the bike to be launched in the upcoming few months.

While the Yamaha Fazer 150 is a semi-faired motorcycle, the new Fazer 250 will have full fairing with the bottom part of the engine being only exposed. The front end of the bike was tapped off to maintain secrecy about the styling of the bike but we can make out that the LED headlamp has been retained and it gets a tall windscreen to protect the rider from wind blast at high speeds. After our first ride of the Yamaha FZ5 we felt that the bike had lot of potential to be a good touring option barring for the wind blast and the Fazer 250 looks set to tackle it with its fairing. The instrument console is the same full-digital unit as seen on its street bike sibling.  The Yamaha Fazer 250 will employ the same 249cc, single-cylinder engine which does duty on the FZ25 which delivers 20.9PS of max power and 20Nm of peak torque. Power would be transmitted to the rear-wheel via a 5-speed gearbox. Suspension duties would be handled by telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking prowess will be offered by 282mm disc with a 2-pot caliper at the front and a 220mm disc with a single-pot caliper at the rear. We expect Yamaha India to offer ABS as an optional extra on the new motorcycle and with respect to pricing expect a premium of around Rs.20, 000 over the FZ25.
