When the Yamaha FZ-25 was launched before this year, there was one question that almost every automotive reporter had. Will Yamaha launch a faired version of the new 250-cc bike along the lines of the Yamaha Fazer? Yamaha officials had announced that it will come in due course of time. But now, it seems that the Yamaha Fazer-250 might be launched sooner than we had anticipated. The upcoming motorbike has been spotted testing in Delhi signaling the fact that Yamaha might launch the new Fazer 250 by the end of this year. When we test rode the new Yamaha FZ25, we felt that the bike had the potential of being a good touring option and the Fazer 250 fits the bill perfectly. It has a much more relaxed riding posture with a raised handle bar and a large windscreen to offer good resistance against wind blast.
Unlike the quarter fairing of the 150cc Yamaha Fazer, the new Fazer 250 features a more pronounced fairing with only the bottom part of the motor being exposed. While it is not visible in the spy pic, we expect the new 250cc bike to feature LED headlight like its street bike sibling. Powering the Yamaha Fazer 250 will be the same 249cc, fuel-injected single-cylinder motor as seen on the Yamaha FZ25. The engine develops 20.9PS of max power and 20Nm of peak torque. Power would be transmitted to the rear-wheel via a 5-speed gearbox. Suspension duties would be handled by telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Stopping power would be achieved from a 282-mm disc with a 2-pot calliper at the front and a 220mm disc with a single-pot calliper at the rear. We expect Yamaha India to offer ABS as an optional extra on the new motorbike.
