Audi A3 facelift 2017 launched in India at Rs.30.50 lakh
Audi has launched the face lifted A3 in India with prices starting at Rs.30.50 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi for the 1.4-litre petrol model, while the 2.0-litre diesel optional costs Rs.32.3 lakh. The launch of the updated sedan follows almost two months after the launch of the face lifted Cabriolet in February this year. Just like the Cabriolet, the A3 acquires relaxed styling in line with the larger A-4, such as a more pronounced grille, restyled bumpers, reprofiled tail lamps and new design LED daytime running lights. As before, the car offers a fair bit of kit such as LED headlights, two zone weather control, a 7.0-inch screen for the MMI infotainment system, electronically adjustable front seats, a sunroof, a rear view camera, front and rear parking sensors, a wireless phone charging pad in the front armrest and seven airbags. However, the A3 misses out on Audi’s Essential Field digital instrument cluster.
Under the hood, the refreshed A3 will use the same petrol engine as the A3 Cabriolet, with the older 1.8-litre unit replaced by the 150hp, 1.4-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol motor with cylinder-on-demand technology which allows the engine to run on only two cylinders, depending on driving conditions. The old model’s 143hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine is set to be carried forward untouched. Inside, the car continues with the minimal button layout. There is a different steering wheel with cruise control and Bluetooth as well as music buttons on it. The front seats are electrically powered but miss out on the memory function. Audi also offers a dual-zone climate control and panoramic sunroof. There is also a wireless phone charging available under the front armrest. The gimmicky multimedia meters available in the international A3 though has been skipped, and the car continues with the old twin-pod layout.
While the 141PS 2.0-litre TDi engine still does duty under the hood of diesel A3, the petrol gets an all-new unit. The 1.4-litre petrol engine makes 150PS – 250Nm and is coupled to a seven speed automatic transmission. This 4-cylinder engine also gets cylinder-on-demand feature. During cruising or low-speed conditions, the ECU shuts off two cylinders, thereby lowering both emissions as well as fuel consumption. Audi rights a fuel economy of 19.1kmpl from the petrol A3 and 20.7kmpl from the diesel. The face lifted Audi A3 challengers the likes of the Mercedes CLA.
