DSK-Benelli India to introduce new entry-level bike at 2018 auto expo
DSK-Benelli India is reportedly working on bringing a new, entry-level, single-cylinder motorcycle at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi. The two-wheeler brand aims to launch three new products in the Indian market including the Leoncino Scrambler, TRK 502 Adventure Tourer and the aforementioned single-cylinder motorcycle.
DSK Motowheels Chairman, Shirish Kulkarni set in a recent interview that a new street bike, with a displacement of 300-400cc is being advanced for the Indian market. The new motorcycle, as told by Kulkarni, will be co-developed by Benelli and DSK and will be manufactured in India. He also added that the motorcycle is currently under the homologation and certification.
The Leoncino is Benelli’s take on the iconic scrambler motorcycles of the 1960s. Adorned with a small, majestic lion on the front mudguard, it is quite easy to see that this scrambler means business. Even without the miniature…er…big cat, the wild nature of the motorcycle is quite evident, visually. The stripped-down body, high ground clearance and knobby tyres give the Leoncino an aggressive stance. Kulkarni remained tight-lipped about any further details but given the supremacy of KTM in the entry-level performance market, it will be interesting to see how the new product is located. DSK-Benelli India will also have to introduce the motorcycle at competitive prices. The new motorcycle will sit above the Benelli TNT25 which is already available in the Indian market.
The new bike will face opposition from one of the premier selling bikes in the segment, the KTM 390 Duke and thus we expect to see aggressive pricing. Local manufacturing should help DSK-Benelli India to introduce the new model with ex-showroom prices starting from INR 2.2-2.4 lakh. Meanwhile, as stated earlier, the Benelli Leoncino India launch was rumored to happen in 2018.
