2016 new BMW 1 Series unveiled; Pictures and Details inside
BMW has revealed the India bound 2016 new 1-Series hatchback ahead of its official unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show in March, 2015. Expected to be launched in India by 2015 end, the new BMW 1 Series facelift gets its design inspiration from the 2 Series and sports a completely re-designed front and rear fascia along with engine upgrades.
Visual changes include LED daytime running lights fitted in redesigned rectangular shaped headlamps. The bumpers have been reshaped with larger intakes and the kidney grilles are also wider, squarer and flatter than before. The roofline falls away gently to the rear onto a heavily raked rear window. The long doors with frameless windows add to the distinctive styling of the new BMW 1 Series. Moving on to the rear end, the tail lights now follow BMW’s signature “L” shape, featuring floating LED tubes inside the lights.
Interior changes include the addition of a new climate control system, 6.5-inch freestanding display, rain-sensing wipers, iDrive operating system and an embedded SIM card, allowing the use of features such as Intelligent Emergency Call. The latest-generation Parking Assistant now enables parallel parking in tight spaces restricted either by two obstacles or on one side only, as well as automatic transverse parking. Features such as the camera-based Driving Assistant, rear-view camera and Speed Limit Info system with No Passing Info display can also be specified.
Powering the new 1 Series is a 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol motor capable of delivering 109 bhp and 180 Nm of torque. There is also a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine capable of delivering 136 bhp and 220 Nm of torque. Its diesel counterpart will be the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 150 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. The BMW 1-series facelift will also get an updated ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox that will be standard across the line-up.
The updated 1 Series is expected to be launched in India by end 2015 or early 2016.
