BMW 6-series gets a facelift
Just a month before its first public appearance scheduled at the Detroit Motor Show, 2015, BMW has unveiled the updated versions of the 2015 BMW 6 series Coupe, BMW 6 series Convertible and the BMW 6 series Gran Coupe.
BMW has just made subtle changes in the facelifts of the three versions of the 6-series range. Once the BMW 6 Series is unveiled officially at the Detroit Motor Show on January 10, 2015, the updated BMW 6-series could be expected in India sometime next year. However, the carmaker will reveal details about the UK price and specifications while unveiling the three new models at the Motor Show. The company will start selling its latest models by next spring or early summer.
The new BMW 6 series models get a redesigned front bumper with a full-width air-vent, new fog lights and LED headlights and nine bars in the kidney grille instead of ten. The rear design gets bigger tailpipes on the 6-cylinder models and little more chrome on the boot. The face lifted 6 series gets new color choices and wheel designs. The new color shades include Melbourne Red metallic, Mediterranean Blue metallic, Glacier Silver metallic, Cashmere Silver metallic, Jatoba metallic.
The 6-cylinder car gets 17-inch rims and the V8 models get 18-inch wheels and the alloy wheels gets a new design too.
The interiors of the 2015 BMW 6 series include LED illuminated parts and few different leather options. There are two new color shades available for the leather trim and the premium car maker also offers a standard heads-up display. Features like dynamic cruise control, heated exterior mirrors, heated front seats, two-zone climate control, and navigation are standard in all models.
Powering the 2015 BMW 6-series model range are the six-cylinder diesel engine that produces 309bhp and 465lb ft for the 640d, a six-cylinder petrol engine that produces 316bhp and 332lb ft for the 640i, a V8 bi-turbo petrol engine that churns out 444bhp and 479lb ft for the 650i and the V8 bi-turbo petrol engine that produces 552bhp and 502lb ft for the M6.
The diesel range is more fuel efficient and ensures better emission controls. Aerodynamic improvements has helped the company to improve the fuel efficiency slightly. The 2015 BMW 6 Series Convertible and Gran Coupe sport a 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8 petrol motor. The M6 range is only available in a rear wheel drive and it transmits power through a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox and an electronically controlled M-differential.
All the models get the standard eight-speed automatic gearbox. Some international markets could get the all-wheel drive system in the new BMW 6-series. All the models of the BMW 6-series are EU6 compliant. Despite ensuring faster acceleration, it delivers better in-gear performance.
The updated M6 coupe accelerates from 0-100 kms per hour in 4.2sec and attains a top speed of 250 kms per hour. The updated M6 range will also be made available with a Competition Package (optional) that increase power by 15bhp.
