2015 India bound Ford Endeavour: What’s new in the upcoming model?
The 2015 Ford Endeavour that has been developed and designed by the company’s Asia Pacific product development and design teams, will be launched in India this year. Besides India, Ford also plans to launch the Everest (known as Endeavour in India) in Australia, China, South Africa, Sub-Sharan Africa and New Zealand.
The 7-seater SUV befits the Everest concept showcased by Ford in Sydney, a year ago. However, the 2015 model gets some some production friendly elements like the head-lamp washers and tyres.
In China, the powertrain of the 2015 Ford Endeavour will be powered by a 3.2-liter 5-cylinder diesel engine that produces 197 bhp and 470 Nm; a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 147.5 bhp and 385 Nm and a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, twin-scroll turbocharged, EcoBoost petrol engine that produces 234 bhp and 360 Nm of torque. The four wheel drive SUV will be available with a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The India bound 2015 Ford Endeavour is expected to be available in diesel variant only. The new model to be introduced this year will be heavier by 343 kgs than the current model and will sport a wheelbase of 2,850 mm. it will be 4,882 mm long, 1,862 mm wide and will continue sporting the same height of 1,836 mm.
The 2015 Endeavour gets a 225 mm ground clearance with towing capacity of 3,000 kgs and payload of 750 kgs. The SUV has been equipped with 29 degree approach angle and 25 degrees of departure that enables the SUV to hold itself at high gradients. The body-on-frame design facilitates adequate torsional strength, much needed for the driving at challenging terrains. The intelligent four wheel drive system, Terrain Management System (available in four settings- Normal, Snow/Gravel/Grass, Sand and Rock), an active transfer case with Torque on Demand makes the car one of the toughest SUVs.
To get more control over tougher terrains, the transfer case in low-range 4-wheel drive mode could be manually locked. The seven-seater SUV’s interiors feature the latest generation of SYNC 2 (Ford’s in-car connectivity solution that lets voice commands to manage the car’s entertainment system, connected mobile devices and climate controls). For easy menu navigation, the SYNC 2 features an 8-inch touchscreen. Some of the other technologies include Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Aid (prevents drivers from drifting out of lane unintentionally), Curve control (helps drivers to maintain control while approaching quick turns), Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross Traffic Alert (informs drivers about Blind Spots), adaptive cruise control, roll stability control, forward alert with collision mitigation and electronic stability program with active park assist.
