Ford India recalls 16,444 units of Ford EcoSport
Ford India has declared a voluntary recall of of its EcoSport compact SUV to inspect and rectify an issue related to the rear suspension, the company said in a statement. The company hasn’t announced that all of the 16,444 vehicles are under fault.
The faulty part is the Rear Twist Beam (RTB) bolt on 16,444 units of the EcoSport manufactured between November 2013 and April 2014 at the company’s Chennai plant. The American carmaker says that the rear twist beam in some of the vehicles manufactured under this period could be suffering from inadequate tightening. If the bolt of the beam hasn’t been tightened enough, the vehicle’s body roll is likely to increase and compromise on its handling in total. Its a part of the torsion beam suspension setup that providing roll stiffness for the vehicle. According to the carmaker, there is a possibility that the bolt may not have been fit to specification in some of the affected vehicles, which might cause the pivot bolt to break and hamper driveability, thereby increasing the risk of an accident. The statement also mentioned that no accidents relating to the issue were reported.
The sales of the Ford EcoSport averaged 3,936 units for the affected six month period. The company has recommended that all customer’s, who it will be duly communicating with, are to go with their cars to their closest Ford dealership to get the vehicle’s inspected. All the necessary rework will be carried out for free by the company. Earlier, the car maker had called in over 1.66 lakh units of its Figo and Fiesta Classic models in September 2013 to rectify issues related to a faulty rear-suspension and the power steering hose. Moreover, in December 2014, Ford India conducted an optional recall of 20,752 units of the EcoSport to address an issue related to a fuel and vapour line.
Ford India recently launched the Ford EcoSport 2016. Apart from cosmetic changes, the refreshed Ford EcoSport gained some bump in its power output as well. No changes were made to the attachment setup of the compact SUV.
