New LWB Range Rover SVAutobiography revealed

A company backed by Nest co-founder Tony Fadell is taking Andy Rubin's startup to court.

The SVAutobiography LWB is built on the Range Rover’s 3,120mm wheelbase (up from 2,922mm of the regular car) to provide back travelers with more leg room (about 1,200mm) and seats that can recline by 40deg. The car’s deep foam seats feature a hot stone massage function and heated calf and footrests. Passengers can open and close the doors with a button, and reach a deployable back table with a combined 10.00-inch touchscreen with 4G Wi-Fi connectivity. A refrigerator has be installed between the two rear passengers, big enough to hold two wine bottles or four 600ml bottles.

Land Rover design boss Gerry McGovern said: “The Range Rover SVAutobiography is the last word of luxury, comfort and refinement. Our standard-bearer for quality and precision exemplifies the attention to detail and sophistication that has been a hallmark of our most luxurious SUV stretching back almost 50 years.” The boot space can be enlarged by folding down the right rear seat. For the first time in a Range Rover, the boot has a power veneer load space floor to aid with loading and unloading.

The car comes complete with Land Rover’s Touch Pro Duo infotainment system with twin-touchscreen controls, allowing information to be swiped from one screen to the other. Power comes from a choice of three engines. At the top of the line is Land Rover’s 565hp super-charged 5.0-litre V8, borrowed from the hot SVR and shared with the smaller SVAutobiography Dynamic, which comes exclusively with the unit. Second in line is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit with an electric motor with 403hp. Lowest in the hierarchy is the 4.4-litre SDV8 diesel entry-level engine, which produces 338hp.

Employees at Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations Technical Centre in Warwickshire will hand-build the new model, offering high levels of customization. The SVAutobiography’s public performance in LA will showcase it along the Discovery SVX and Range Rover Sport SVR; as well as the standard wheelbase SVAutobiography Dynamic. The new Range Rover SVAutobiography LWB is expected to come to India in 2018 as a part of the facelifted line-up that is expected early next year. The pre-facelift model is presently sold in India, priced from Rs.2.59 crore to 4.62 crore (on-road, Delhi).
