2015 New Mahindra Bolero spied in Chennai
The new Mahindra Bolero that is codenamed as U301 has been caught testing on the roads of Chennai. The car was spotted in the outskirts of Chennai near the Mahindra Research Valley. It is being speculated that the U301 could be launched next year. According to Mahindra, their new hydro formed body design with framed chassis will be used for most of their new models. It is being believed that this car, too, will be having a similar setup. Since a framed modular chassis is being used, it will enable designers to experiment a little more with the body shells. The Mahindra next gen U301 is also being tested in terrains of Germany as the company wants to ensure that they make the best even better.
The U301 will have underpinnings similar to Scorpio but the body on top will be entirely different. The major difference between the designs of Scorpio and U301 is that the design of Scorpio is quite flashy or fancy whereas the design of U301 is expected to be a little more modest and sober . The spy photos indicate that this upcoming car is expected to have a boxy UV body with straight lines and no bulging humps and bumps. This might well be your typical no-frills (design-wise, at least) utilitarian runabout.
Tentatively, you can expect to find a 1.5-litre or a 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines under the bonnet. The U301’s competition will include cars like the Tata Sumo and the Tavera. So, from this, we can expect similar pricing when this car arrives in Mahindra showrooms sometime late in the next year. The next gen Bolero is going to be driven by a three-cylinder diesel engine. It is developed by SsangYong jointly.
The price of the next gen Bolero is expected to be quite competitive. It is being speculated that the starting price of this vehicle could be under Rs. 6 lakhs which can come as a shocker to its competitors.
The new next gen Bolero is expected to be based completely on a new platform and is touted to be a premium product, with hot features and improved aesthetics. It will be underpinned by new third generation ladder frame chassis, which is debuted in new gen Scorpio. If the sources are to be believed, the next gen Bolero is going to be 6 kgs lighter than the existing models and will be stiffer than the existing models. It is also expected to have better agility and ride quality as it has optimized suspension geometry.
Interestingly, despite of low sales of Mahindra Bolero MPV from domestic car maker Mahindra and Mahindra has succeeded in retaining its crown of top selling MPV in Indian car market continuously for the fourth month during the month of July, 2014. In the race of top selling MPV’s, Bolero gained the top spot while the strong contenders Toyota Innova, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Ford EcoSport were pushed to second, third and fourth position respectively.
The recently launched Mobilio MPV from Japanese car maker Honda Motors has also succeeded in making its strong position in segment and is expected to affect the sales chart in coming months. The existing model has been around for a decade and a half and is still going strong on the sales charts. The arrival of the next gen Bolero is surely expected to rise up the sales figures and make Mahindra regain its top-seller’s position again.
