Mitsubishi Pajero Sport’s price in India increased to Rs. 24.98 lakh
With the excise duty on SUVs going up to 30 percent from the current 24 percent, major auto makers have already announced their plans to hike prices of their offerings in India. Mitsubishi is the latest to join this list by increasing the price of its one and only offering in India, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport from Rs. 23.55 lakh to Rs. 24.98 lakh for the automatic variant. The manual variant’s price has gone up from Rs. 23.80 lakh to Rs. 25.28 lakh.
The Pajero Sport was recently updated (Nov, 2014) with restyled front bumpers and a new grille in order to maintain a competitive edge over the Toyota Fortuner and Hyundai Santa Fe. On the inside a navigation system, integrated DVD player and reverse parking assist were also part of the upgrade.
Powering the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 4×4 manual variant is a 2.5-litre inter-cooled and turbocharged Di-Diesel engine capable of producing 175 bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque. The all-wheel drive system is currently being offered on the manual transmission variant only. The 4×2 automatic variant is also run by the same engine with a slightly lower torque of 350 Nm. The lowered torque makes the 4×2 automatic variant the more fuel efficient of the two with an ARAI certified mileage of 12.8 kmpl.
Sales of the Pajero in India have been slow owing to the relatively smaller number of sales and service outlets for Mitsubishi in India. Its competitors, Hyundai (Santa Fe) and Toyota (Fortuner), have more service centers and sales outlets as well as more cars under their banner which is a major concern Mitsubishi needs to address. What remains to be be seen is how the price hike will affect the sales of the Pajero Sport.
