As per a report by Chinese media, Suzuki is all set to launch its SX4 S-Cross with a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine in the Chinese market. The launch is expected to happen by Q3 of this year. The Suzuki SX4 S-Cross is currently offered with a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine in the European market. The 1.6-litre engine produces a power of 118 hp and torque of 156 Nm and comes mated to a 5-speed manual and CVT automatic transmission with both front wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD).

As per the Chinese media, the 1.4-litre turbocharged unit used in the S-Cross dishes out 136 hp of power and 220 Nm of torque and comes mated to both CVT and manual gearboxes with both 2WD and 4WD.

It is expected that the 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, which would power the S-Cross will be the 1.4-liter K14B engine with a turbocharger fastened together to deliver more output in terms of power and torque. The K14B unit is currently powers the Ertiga and Ciaz in India, which produces 92 hp and 130 Nm on the Ciaz.

The S-Cross is scheduled for India launch in May 2015. Since the K14B engine is localized in India, Maruti Suzuki could explore the possibility of using this engine for the Indian S-Cross, either with or without the charger.

Once launched in India, Maruti Suzuki SX4 S-Cross will compete with Mahindra Scorpio, Hyundai iX25, Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster. The S-Cross is a crossover based on the SX4 hatchback that was never launched in India but the hatchback was replaced by the crossover in some European markets.
