Tata Motors has been on a restructuring spree and the launch of Zest and Bolt is not where the company’s restructuring plans would come to halt. GreasePress has already informed its readers about the company’s plans to introduce a new set of hatchback and sedan that has been codenamed ‘Kite’. The Kite hatchback and compact sedan is being rigorously tested by the company to replace the outgoing Indica eV2 and Indigo eCS.

How will be the Kite hatchback?

The Kite hatchback is a serious transformation of the Indica with an entirely new top-hat and new design elements that include rising belt line, diamond window and slingshot line that runs through the side profile of the hatchback’s body design. Accentuating the bulge in the bootlid are the taillights that merges well with the tailgate. While the designers of the hatchback have given stubby taillights, the front view gets elongated headlamps that consolidates well with the honeycomb mesh grille.

The Kite hatchback will not sport a tall boy design rather it will be feature a lower slung image and its body outline will resemble the size and shape of the Ford Figo and Honda Brio. The body design befits Tata Motors strategy of positioning the Kite hatch below Tata Bolt.

All those evaluating various options in the compact sedan segment could also wait for the upcoming Kite sedan.

How will be the Kite compact sedan?

The Kite compact sedan that will be positioned below the Zest, will take inspiration for its tail design from its elder sibling. However, to maintain appropriate design proportions, the compact sedan will get sharper rake angle for the rear windshield.

The interiors will feature a sporty image with the upholstery getting dual tone combination and satin finish inserts. The instrumentation gets a white backlight and will also include a multi-information display.

Seeing Tata Motors emphasis on the internal features in the Zest and Bolt, expect the carmaker to make its younger set of siblings rich in terms of features.

Powering the Kite siblings

Powering the petrol variants will be the 1.2-litre turbopetrol Revotron engine that does duty on the Zest and Bolt, whereas, the diesel variant will be powered by a new 1.0-litre three cylinder powertrain, using Tata’s Dicor technology.

The Kite siblings will enter the production stage by Q3 or Q4 of FY 2015. After the Zest, Bolt and the Kite siblings (positioned below Zest and Bolt), the restructuring plans of Tata Motors will not stop here. The company is believed to be working on a set of premium hatchback and sedan that will compete with Honda’s premium hatchback Honda Jazz and premium sedan Honda City. The test mules of the premium hatchback and sedan siblings are yet to be spotted.

Tata Motors is also working towards bringing out its new set of SUVs, both said to be based on the Freelander platform.
