Toyota’s motorsport society, Gazoo Racing has teased the GR super sport model ahead of its debut at next year’s Tokyo Auto Salon. We had previous stated that Toyota is working on a new racing concept under the Gazoo Racing brand, which manufactures for the Le Mans. While the Japanese car-makers had showcased the Toyota GR HV Sports concept at the Tokyo Motor Show, the new GR Super Sport Concept will compete at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring in May. Toyota Gazoo Racing will announce the drivers for the Le Mans race on January 12.

The teaser image of the concept shows a sleek race-car-like silhouette, which is expected to feature a hybrid powertrain, similar to the one used on the team’s World Endurance Championship TS050 Hybrid. The WEC racer combines a 2.4-litre V6 petrol engine with electric motors to develop a total of 1,000hp, which is sent to all-four-wheels. The long rear section on the concept suggests the usage of this powertrain, which could be mounted just behind the passengers. The design of the GR Super Sport Concept also seems to be influenced from the LMP1 race car.

While Toyota has not revealed the technical specs of the GR Super Sport Concept, we expect it to come with a 2.4-litre, turbocharged V6 engine that has the ability to sprint from 0-100kmph in just 3 seconds. Reports also suggest that the GR Super Sport Concept will be coupled with a hybrid powertrain, as it with most of the Le Mans race cars. In addition to vehicles competing in motorsports such as the Yaris WRC and TS050 Hybrid, Toyota Gazoo Racing will also exhibit production vehicles such as the 86 GR and the Vitz GRMN, a 150-unit limited-special-edition model for Japan.
