Volvo XC40 SUV India launch by mid-2018 – Debuts on Volvo India site
Set to go up against the likes of the Mercedes GLA, Audi Q3 and BMW X1, the new Volvo XC40 compact premium SUV will be launched in India by mid-2018. 2018 Volvo XC40 will be positioned below the new Volvo XC60, which was launched in India this week. Unlike XC60 and XC90 which are based on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture platform, the new XC40 will be positioned on the company’s Compact Modular Architecture platform. The 5-seater Volvo XC40 borrows design elements from XC60 and XC90. It gets a new grille and structure profile and will be offered in a choice of 17 color combinations for both body and roofline.
Interiors will see a host of comfort, infotainment and safety features among which is a 12.3” TFT instrument panel and a 9.0” infotainment system positioned in the center of the dashboard. A 3 spoke multi-function steering wheel, comfortable seating and plenty of storage spaces are seen in its interiors. Safety and driver aid features such as pilot assistance system, city safety, run off, cross traffic alert, road protection brake support and a 360 degree camera offering easy maneuver into parking spaces make the new Volvo XC40 one of the best equipped small SUVs. Powering the new Volvo XC-40 comes from a D-4 diesel engine and a T5 petrol 4-cylinder Drive-E engine. Volvo has confirmed that powertrain options could also include a hybrid and pure electric version. Scheduled for launch from early next year in Europe, the new Volvo XC40 will be priced from at £27,905 ($37,746/ INR24,56,320) in the UK for the T3 Momentum FWD trim going up to £39,305 ($53,166/ INR34,59,777) for the D4 AWD First Edition. Volvo XC40 has entered manufacture at the company plant in Ghent, Belgium from November 2017 with order books already opened.
In India, it will be sold as a CBU. India-spec Volvo XC40 will come with a choice of two engine options – 2.0 liter 190 hp diesel and 2.0 liter 247 hp petrol. Not only it will be the most powerful car in the segment, it will also be the most feature packed.
