Yamaha to bring YZF-R25 to India in March-April 2015
Japanese Bike maker, Yamaha will bring the Yamaha YZF-R25 to Indian showrooms by March-April 2015. Yamaha had launched the Yamaha YZF-R25 in Indonesia in May this year. Due to high demand of the bike in Indonesia (where the bike is manufactured), the company had to postpone the export of the Yamaha YZF-R25 to India.
Yamaha YZF-R25 was first unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2013 and was also displayed at the Indian Auto Expo in 2014. Bookings for the Yamaha YZF-R25 will begin during March or April, 2015 (the time when the bike to expected to reach India). The Yamaha YZF-R25 is expected to be priced within Rs. 2.5 to 3 lakhs in India. The bike comes in three colour options-red, blue and black in Indonesia.
The bike will reach India through the CKD route and therefore the price of the Yamaha YZF-R25 is expected to be at a higher side. The Yamaha YZF-R25 will be exported (from Indonesia) to 30 countries including Japan.
The Yamaha YZF-R25 will sport a new 249cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that would churn out 35 bhp of power and 22.6Nm of torque. The bike will be available with a six-speed gearbox. It also has a high compression engine that uses Yamaha’s DiASil (Die casting Aluminum-Silicon) cylinders to ensure better heat dissipation and lighter weight. Power can be controlled through disc brakes at both ends. At the front, there are telescopic shock absorbers and at the rear, there is a mono-shock setup that will address undulations on roads.
The Yamaha YZF-R25 has reverse-slat twin headlights, LED rear lights, an air duct and shift timing indicator. The LCD instrument console in the YZF-R25 features and indicators for pass-light, low oil and low fuel, odometer, digital fuel-gauge, digital dual trip meter and a digital speedometer. Along with a red colored needle, a white based, analogue tachometer has also been provided.
The 166 kg- YZF-R25 is 2090 mm long, 720 mm wide and has a height of 1135 mm. The bike has been built on a completely new chassis and has a 14 litre fuel capacity. In terms of ride and handling, the Yamaha YZF-R25 comes with an extended wheelbase of 1380 mm that ensures stable and safe ride. With a ground clearance of 160 mm, the bike offers excellent off road abilities. The well placed handlebar offers responsive handling qualities and the suspensions work efficiently and smoothly.
The Yamaha YZF-R25 has been inspired by Yamaha’s Moto GP bike, YZR-M1. So we can expect the bike to be dynamic, agile and a hard core performance oriented bike. In terms of design, the Yamaha YZF-R25 seems to have acquired some clues from its siblings R1 and R6. The Yamaha YZF-R25 will compete with Honda CBR250R, Kawasaki Ninja 250 Mono and Hyosung GT250R in India. It is priced at 53 million Rupiah (roughly Rs. 2.70 lakh) in Indonesia. If Yamaha manages to maintain this price, it could see positive results on its sales charts.
The Japanese multinational corporation, Yamaha established itself in India in 1985. By August 2001, Yamaha had set up Yamaha India (its 100% subsidiary). IYM has two plants in India-Faridabad (Haryana) and Surajpur (U.P). It also has two independent units in Chennai and Surajpur, respectively.
